2012-2013 Art History Graduate Student Survey: Are you concerned about access to reliable funding information? Precarious labor in the Arts? General work conditions at Yale?

Dear Colleagues,

In November and December, 22 graduate students in our department sat down with members of the GESO Art History committee to respond directly to issues concerning them. The main discussion points revolved around access to reliable financial and funding information, departmental attitudes towards precarious and unpaid labor in the Arts, and general conditions for grad students in our department and at Yale. Together, we are determining which issues are of primary importance to Art History grad students and what steps we need to take to address those issues. A survey of this focus has never before been undertaken, and we want to thank all who have contributed their valuable input.

Because some of us are off-campus and/or did not have the opportunity to meet one-on-one, the survey is now available online through our new GESO Art History blog: http://gesoarthistory.blogspot.com/2013/01/2012-2013-art-history-graduate-student.html. Each question is optional and the survey takes approximately 15 – 30 minutes to complete.

If you haven't taken the survey, please take the opportunity to complete it now.

We look forward to sharing our findings, and further developing campaigns that address our needs, and the needs of our larger university community.

Sincerely,
Your GESO Art History Committee

The Changing University: An Interdisciplinary Symposium

Art History GESO members and friends,

We write to invite you to "The Changing University," an exciting symposium on December 7‐8, 2012. Sponsored by GESO, the conversations will bring together academics across disciplines; spur conversations between academics and non‐academics; and focus on solutions to changes in academia that affect us all.

Please be sure to join us on Friday, December 7, from 5-7pm for the plenary session with speakers Corey Robin (Political Science, Brooklyn College), Irene Mulvey (Mathematics, Fairfield University), and Michael Denning (American Studies, Yale University). We will meet as a group in the Loria lobby at 4:45 and walk over to SSS Auditorium, on the corner of Grove and Prospect together.

See the attached schedule for more details, and we look forward to seeing you there!

Warmly,

Art History Organizing Committee
